Photographed this afternoon in very dull light. I would be interested to receive ideas as to its identification.
I have checked Collins which shows it could be a first year female 'male lookalike' Ring Ouzle. The pdf from Bird Watching magazine states that first year birds have this dark bill.
The bird was in the small tree to the left of the hide at Coed-y-dinas this afternoon.

It`s a Blackbird my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tony. I had already sent the photos to a well known birder who straight away emailed me stating that it was a female Blackbird probably from the continent.
ReplyDeleteFooled me!
whether a continental bird, hard to say. I thought it was a male,(But always good to hear other peoples opinion so that we can learn something, even if its just about a Blackbird ) A juvenile on its first winter moult, which may carry on till next Feb/ March when the bird will start to take on its adult color and distinctive yellow beak.which occurs at this time.
