Dolydd Hafren

Lots of birds around today. Canada and greylag geese everywhere, amongst which where 11 Goosander and a female Goldeneye (is this uncommon)? Quite a variety of waders with 31 Curlew, one with a set of colour rings, 2 Green Sandpipers and 23 Lapwing. A lone Buzzard was patrolling the waders, before a starling murmaration began to form. By around 4pm there where about 450 swirling around, quite a spectacle. A Sparrowhawk tried to take advantage of this bonanza.
Other birds included: 5 Cormorant, 20 Wigeon, a large roost of mixed winter thrushes, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Grey Heron and 3 Little Egret.



 I will post a video of the murmaration and the details of the Curlew soon.

    What's the road like down to the reserve Dan? Nice bit of digiscoping.

      Its fine for the first 50 metres but after that becomes quite muddy. Nothing to bad though and well worth the visit

    Hi Dan, over-wintering Goldeneye can be found throughout the county but only in small numbers, so not uncommon but nice to find!
