fox in the garden

Surprised at lunchtime today to see a fox walking around the garden, apparently unconcerned by 5 surprised onlookers peering through the window at it.

Having put a piece of fatty lamb out for the birds, we thought it may well have picked up its scent, but it ignored the meat completely, and continued sniffing at the snow, particularly under plants, often looking as though it was about to pounce on something.

When a couple of pheasants, which started visiting the garden this week, appeared, we thought their time might be limited, especially when they appeared to be stalking the fox as it disappeared behind a large shrub. However, they reappeared unscathed, and the fox walked off in the opposite direction and across our frozen pond.

I managed a few 'record' shots through the window, and some video clips - (my limited technology skills have not allowed me to download the video) - feel very envious of all the bloggers who are producing their amazing pictures for the blog - thanks for all the pleasure you're giving the rest of us, and especially to Paul for setting the whole thing up. Happy Christmas to all.
