Hi everybody, the Burgess Croft birder is back bloging. So let me wish all of you a very belated happy new year. Been off the air for a little while, My old PC crashed and burnt, So after saving the pennies and the weather now permitting, hey presto! new machine. I have spent a few hours on the blog catching up with all the postings that i've missed. lots of good sightings and some cracking photo's from our (happy snappers) ??? Birding wise for me has been very enjoyable, with a large number and variety of birds coming to the feeders all the way through the cold spell. those being and seen nearly every day :-Chaffinch, Greenfinch, goldfinch, Brambling, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Dunnock,House Sparrow,Starling, Robin, Siskin, Blakbird, Collard Dove,Reed Bunting, Jackdaw, Redpoll and Linnet, Also seen visiting the garden were Carrion Crow, Wood Pigeon, Field fare, redwing and song Thrush and when the Waxwing were passing through, two days when they were feeding in Burgess Croft gardens. One of the better sightings for me was on the Tuesday after Christmas just before 10:00am. all the birds in the garden and also in all the neighbouring gardens lifted off forming a large mixed flock , Two Wood Pigeons then flew across the garden about 8 to 10 feet in the air, going, as the saying goes ( like bats out of hell), followed a few seconds later by a Peregrine in full attack mode, the grace and speed with which it was moving was incredable, Whether he (i think it was a male) managed a successfull attack i dont know, For, when i looked outside there was no sign of them .
Lets hope this year continues in the same vein , Good birding to everybody in 2011..
