WHEATEAR

Spent some time this afternoon in the hills on the road from Cefn Coch to Carno, Over the last few years i've found it always an area where Wheatear can be seen and was not dissapointed this time. large number of wheatear on the ground whilst several males took to perching on the fence posts on the side of the road. Which would have enabled our (happy Snappers)to take a good pic. Also of note was that the females outnumbered the males 2 or 3 to one. Meadow Pippits also showed in number,  whilst from the view at Mynnydd yr Hendre which overlooks the vista looking towards LLanbrynmair red Kites and Buzards soared on the thermals and updrafts. On the way home and just outside of Aberhafesp on the B4568 sighted a Red kite diving and hitting a road kill pheasant. This is the second time iv'e seen this in the last few weeks, I wonder if anybody else has noticed this happening.

  1. A bit late in the day as I too enjoyed the wheatear above cefn coch and the quarry. Your comment re Red Kite - have seen the same kite occurence with road kill. First on the road from New Mills to Berriew and today on the road from New Mills to LC.A wonderfull sight on each occasion.
