Llyn Coed y Dinas - Great News

Shot from yesterday morning - didn't realise at the time it had a hint of a double rainbow.  This will probably generate a complaint from 'anonymous'.
One shot from this morning, will leave Phil to post what will undoubtedly be better shots than mine!  Trying to be a bit creative here framing the bird with the reeds but it didn't quite work - in the light the eye does kind of stand out though!
For Brian, this taken with the 500mm on the good old 5D - works very well.  Reason being had the 200mm on the 1D3 hoping that the Otter (YES OTTER!!) skulking in the reeds in front of the hide would show itself properly - it didn't!

  1. Otter! And so the jealousy swings back toward me, even without pictures! Its like the Grebe has a jewel for an eye.

  2. Haha - didn't get any pictures though I'm afraid - Phil and I were somewhat gobsmacked

  3. Briiliant news Mark, I have seen otters quite a few times at the reserve but over three years ago. You can always tell one is about by the way ALL the birds move to the side of the lake away from this intruder.
The 5D will always produce lovely noise free shots and seems to love thay 500mm of yours.
I have a poorly cat at the moment so having to keep an eye on him, but look forward to any new news from you.

  4. Indeed Brian - the Grebe knew something was in the reeds as it looked very very wary - 5D is fine at low ISO but once you start to push it it's not so good, then again it is an old design! Best to the cat - an opportunity for garden bird photography perhaps?
