Still plenty of reed buntings, yellowhammers and bramblings to be seen along the Wern lanes, in big flocks along with chaffinches, particularly adjacent to the fields of last year's wheat crop, which continue to provide an important food source during this never-ending winter. This morning an added bonus was a skylark, which hovered beside the lane at hedge height and then dropped onto the roadside. It seemed to be pecking at food from a squatting position and stayed for about 5 minutes before flying off - we used to see and hear skylarks here 30 years ago, but haven't for a long time now.
A female blackcap and a female reed bunting are visiting the garden regularly, along with 2 jays and a sparrowhawk - still a few siskins too.
