Just spent 4 days in Montgomeryshire, with majority of time at Pwll Penarth. Summary; 2 pair Little grebe, one of which appears to be sitting. Little egret dropped in sat. at 7.30am and left after 2 snatched photos. King fishers showing on occasion. Sand martins actively in and out of their burrows. warblers include Chiff Chaff, Willow, sedge, reed, Garden, and Blackcap. Common Sand Pipers around and about. Saturday PM went to my favorite place Rounton Hill in the hope of photographing Redstart and Pied Flycatchers.Could not believe it when I found a work party clearing all branches from around nest boxes and thinning out trees and replacing old nest boxes with new.Needless to say no sign of target birds. What idiot organised this work for first week in May.Walked around hill and saw Linnet, Whitethroat, Raven, Buzzard, Kestrel, 3 Red kite, Willow Warbler, Chiff Chaff, Meadow Pipit, and Sky Lark.
Had to go out of area for Red Start etc.

DeleteMeurig.
Meurig has hopefully now received an email (sent yesterday) from Rob, our Reserves Officer, explaining that this work had nothing to with the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, content copied below:
ReplyDeleteWe’ve not done anything up at Roundton for a month or so, so it wasn’t us doing the work. If it’s the area I’m thinking of the boundary isn’t marked very well, so it’ll probably be the neighbours doing work in preparation to replacing the fence. As disappointed as we are that they have done this type of work at this time of year there isn’t a lot we can do to stop them, I will however go up on site hopefully today and have a look what’s been done and try and have a talk to them about why they shouldn’t be doing it now.
If you see anything occurring on the reserves which you are concerned about, please contact myself (tammy@montwt.co.uk) or Rob (rob@montwt.co.uk), 01938 555654, in the first instance.
Thanks,
Tammy Stretton
Conservation Officer
Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust
Further to the message I posted this morning, I can now confirm that this work was undertaken by one of our neighbours, on their land. We thank Meurig for bringing this to our attention and accept his apologies.
