Birds and more birds...

At trip around Montgomeryshire yesterday produced 80 different species of bird! Lots of great birds seen, highlights were:

Powys Castle - 15 Hawfinch, 1 Green Woodpecker

Lymore Estate - 15-20 Tree Sparrow, 4 Gadwall, 150 Wigeon

Caersws - 12 Whooper Swan, 32 Snipe, 1 Common & 1 Green Sandpier

Glaslyn - 4 Red Grouse, 3 Goldeneye

Llyn Hir - 13 Woodcock, 1 Jack Snipe, 40 Snipe, 3 Golden Plover, 20 Lapwing

There's plenty out there!!

We hoped to have your luck today at Lymore and Powis Castle - thrilled to see a flock of 23 Tree Sparrows in and around the hedge beyond the cricket pitch at Lymore, but still no luck with the hawfinches at Powis. Do you have any tips? What time of day did you see them, and were they in the same area?

  3. I was there around 8 in the morning. Try and pick a calm day and just search the tops of the trees around the car park. At times they couldn't be seen but they were calling fairly regularly.
