More luck with bittern than hawfinches!
The bittern appeared again today, spotted by Wyn in the reeds just before it moved into sight in front of the hide, at about 5 pm. What a privilege to have such good views, and to see every detail of its cryptic plumage. It made several quietish vocal sounds as it perched in the reeds, and as it occasionally stretched out a wing, the full beauty of the feather patterning was revealed. A rare treat indeed, and still there as the light disappeared. Good to see Brenda, Wyn and John too.
Still no luck with the hawfinches though, but there's always tomorrow!

Well done Sue! Fabulous looking bird.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ed - luckily for me it was close enough to the hide for my little camera to get a record shot through the glass. But all I really wanted to do was to watch it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent Sue, and a great shot. Hope you get to see the Hawfinches.
ReplyDeleteNice! Will it still be there by the time I make it over from Llanidloes?
ReplyDeleteHope so Eryl! - there again tonight! It'll be good to see you.
ReplyDeleteNo luck with the hawfinches again early this morning, despite it being such a still and beautiful start to the day!
