QUAIL in Middletown

At 2.30 a.m, Clare awoke and alerted me to a Quail repeating its wet-me-lips song from a cornfield across the stream. We live in Montgomeryshire but unfortunately its field is in Shropshire! However, I hope Mike will keep the post in to encourage others living near cornfields or meadows to listen. It's the fourth summer in the last 20 years we have had Quail here. Interestingly they sometimes raise a brood in France in early spring, before continuing north to raise another in Britain in high summer.

  1. Fascinated to hear they sometimes raise broods both in France and UK in a single year Simon. Good to see you yesterday - we'll keep our ears open for quail locally.
