Brayton Holt is a teacher, speaker, the co-author of
‘The Birds of Montgomeryshire’ and for many years was the county representative
of the British Trust for Ornithology and the official county recorder of birds.
He has been in and led groups to many parts of the world in his quest to see and
learn more about birds - Australia, New Zealand, Gambia, India, Falklands,
Antarctic, Spitzbergen, Japan, South America, many parts of Europe and of course
all over Britain. His wealth of knowledge of birds and conservation is
fascinating and an inspiration to all.
Coast
My talk" Coast" is, of course, based on, or at least
named after the TV series. My journey began in 1941, the day I was evacuated
from a bomb stricken Merseyside to the village of Towyn in North Wales. While my
Grandmother organised the Housing Officer, my Grandad found a blackbird’s nest
and showed me how to blow an egg. With the sea only a couple of hundred yards
away, "seagulls" introduced me to the seaside birds. In the seventy or so years
since, much of British Coast has been explored and this is my photographic
record.
