Redwing feeding on Holly Berries in Guilsfield on Tuesday (at the village shop)
40 plus birds one Wood Pigeon, one Blackbird one Fieldfare and following a very strident alarm call
and a scattering of birds a Sparrowhawk flashed past.
The large holly tree was stripped of berries by Wed. morning.
I spent around three hours watching and photographing the birds and had many good record shots
but of course I had to have an image with the bird, snow and a berry in it's beak.
Between Sunday and Monday we had 9 inches of snow,
so my front and back garden feeding stations were totally populated.
Windfall apples restrung on my bare apple trees attracted eight Blackbirds who along with a few Starlings completely devoured 40 apples in two days.
A Pied Wagtail normally only seen on the surrounding rooftops is now staking a claim to part of the garden chasing off the House Sparrows, Chaffinches and even the Robins.
Goldfinches and Greenfinches are constantly in attendance feeding on Sunflower Hearts and
Great, Blue and Coal tits are busy on nut and fat ball feeders.
House Sparrows have benefited from constant ground feeding since last Spring and flocks of 60 or more fly in and out of the field hedge in Celyn Lane,
George.
