Spring is rapidly turning into summer and the birds here at Llwynderw have been and still are busy. The Ravens have fledged 3 youngsters who took an inordinate amount of time to leave the safety of their tree. Tawny owls have young out as do the Siskins, Goldcrests, Skylark, Blackbirds, Song Thrush and Robin. ( the ones we have seen)
Others are still feeding with adults of Great and Blue Tits, Great-spotted Woodpecker,  Nuthatch, Pied Flycatcher and Redstart very busy. The young of the Redstarts in the bee hotel should be fledging by next weekend if all goes well.
Other birds present which are (hopefully) nesting are Blackcap, Willow warbler, Whitethroat, Garden warbler, Wood warbler, Spotted Flycatcher, Tree Pipit, Meadow Pipit, and Linnet. Plus all the other garden regulars.
The very warm weather has brought out the butterflies with lots of Common Blues, Green Hairstreaks, Small heaths, Small Coppers, Small pearl-bordered Fritillaries, Walls and various whites, but what has caused us some surprise is to see our first Meadow Brown today.
