Sad to report

Sadly sometime between Thursday and yesterday morning the House Martin nest next door came down - a slightly different and rather large double decker arrangement (you can see the two circles of mud) it had been in place for as long as we've been here.  Both were occupied with the lower nest certainly having reasonably advanced chicks - no idea whether any of these fledged and there are no signs of any youngsters/eggs etc on the ground underneath so assume they've been predated.

We had a similar issue where our single nest collapsed a few years ago in Autumn long after the House Martin had migrated away - as this coincided with them covering the village car park in tarmac, until that point a great source of mud for local nest building, I put up two artificial nests.  Pleased to report that one is again occupied this year
