Willow Tits in Montgomeryshire

Thanks to everyone who took part in the National Willow Tit survey in 2019 and 2020. Although the survey was cut short in 2020 by lockdown we achieved a good result for the county.

The map of Montgomeryshire below shows the surveyed tetrads (2km squares) in which Willow Tit were found (green) and not found (red). Overall we surveyed 54 Montgomeryshire tetrads and found 53 pairs of Willow Tit within 26 of the tetrads.

Clearly not all of the county was surveyed and I would personally expect more Willow Tit will be present in the Hafren Forest and along the western edge of the county. Additionally, parts of the Dyfnant Forest were not surveyed that will undoubtedly contain more Willow Tit. I think on this basis, a conservative estimate might be 100+ pairs of Willow Tit currently present within Montgomeryshire.
