We thought we'd seen the last of the swallows on Wednesday, but yesterday afternoon (9th Oct) a dozen or so were flying (in the pouring rain) over the garden. This morning we watched a single bird for a couple of minutes, as we ate breakfast.

You win!
ReplyDeleteThere's still time - it seems a very strange season in so many ways!
ReplyDeleteKeep the bidding going!
ReplyDeleteCan hardly believe it, but both yesterday late afternoon, and then again today, we've been watching between 12 and 14 swallows feeding/flying above pasture grazed by cows beside the Guilsfield Arm of the canal - at around 6pm. Every day we feel the previous day was probably their last, but they surely can't stay much longer!!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Tammy has the House Martin latest: 15 at Burgedin Locks on 8th. So I wonder: is the canal (running approx N-S) acting as a flyway?
ReplyDeleteWe had a similar thought Simon................ and a single swallow has just flown past our window as we sat drinking coffee!
ReplyDeleteA day without a post: have they gone now Sue?
ReplyDeleteWe didn't see one yesterday Simon!! So Mon 12th was our latest, and that was a surprise in itself!
