White Stork perched in Llanidloes

Many thanks to Tim Benbow for this photo, taken this morning in Llanidloes, and to Iolo Williams for announcing it on Twitter. White Stork is a rare visitor to the county, and it's still more remarkable to see it perched on a Llanidloes chimney!

  2. Do I have to put a nest on one of the telegraph poles on the farm?! Wish I had been in Llani.

  3. Mike Haigh comments, "The bird appears to be ringed. Possibly it's from the Sussex reintroduction project." See https://www.whitestorkproject.org

  5. Observed a White Stork above Cemmaes Road late 70 early 80’s. The RSPB Newtown Office was informed and confirmed that it had be already been noted. Great to note another has been seen.

  6. Now we have chapter and verse from Iolo Williams: "Yes, it’s a Knepp bird that wintered on the outskirts of London, spent March 2/3 on the Lancashire coast then moved to mid-Wales. It’s ring number GB35." Thanks Iolo!

  7. Well done Tim Benbow - how amazing it would be if we were to see White Storks back in Mont on a regular basis. That chimney looks a potentially good place for a nest, with a perfectly placed little platform too.
