The first Swallow to be reported was at The Derwen Nursery, Guilsfield, on 28 March. I already heard of Sand Martin (first 19 Mar, Dolydd Hafren) and Little Ringed Plover (first 20 Mar, Dolydd Hafren). A Blackcap was singing by the Tourist Information Office in Welshpool this morning. A Pied Flycatcher was singing at Coed Pendugwm Woods this morning too. Thanks to Aneurin Lloyd, Paul Davies, John Morris, Clare Boyes and MWT for these records.
Please keep me informed of new migrants arriving, (and don't forget your last dates of Fieldfare, Redwing and Brambling!) with an email to montbird@gmail.com
In other news, Telyn and Seren are back! They are the female Ospreys from the nests at Cors Dyfi and Llyn Clywedog: they both arrived 'home' on 28 March. The long-staying Cattle Egret was still at Dolydd Hafren yesterday, with two Great Egrets and about 8 Little Egrets. Shovelers are still at Llyn Coed-y-Dinas, (2 pairs yesterday).
It's certainly all kicking off! I was surprised to hear a Pied Flycatcher at Coed Pendugwm this morning, but I gather from Ceri Jones that they were back in Llanidloes last Friday!
ReplyDeleteMy first date for Blackcap was 25th March around here (Moelygarth). One was singing very loudly at Coed Pendugwm this morning.
So far, the last date for Redwing is 22nd March.
