Tern at L.Cyd this afternoon.

This tern was at L. Cyd this afternoon, and I believe it to be a Common, despite the bill colouration. Debate welcome!

Much less interesting, perhaps, but 150+ pairs of Black-Headed Gulls have returned, and are nest-building. I presume that, despite their absence for 5 weeks, they could not find a better spot.

  1. Hi Chris, a Common Tern was present on Dolymynach reservoir Elan Valley Fri 29/04/22, before flying your way ?

  2. Excellent capture Chris. The most striking feature is the long legs typical of Common in the perched image, which rules out Arctic Tern (always very short-legged). The bill is very dull for a summer Common, but it must still be transitioning from its dark winter bill.
