With the water level having risen by about 3 feet in the last week, the usual waterfowl seem to have increased in numbers. A mixed flock of about 1000 Canada and Grey-Lag Geese are accompanied by about 150 Teal - a very good showing. Tufteds are 15-20, about the same as the Wigeon.
Lapwing numbers are very good, with 40-50 usually present. The photo is of one swimming among the Canadas - something I've not seen before.
Meanwhile at home, the Redwings flocks have moved through daily in big flocks, with lesser numbers of Fieldfare. Wood Pigeons are also on the move SW most mornings, with multiple flocks of between 10 and 50 birds, nothing like the estimate of 40,000 reported over the Wirral!
