Continuing the occasional thread about Yellowhammers in Monts, I have received this from Barry Macdonald at Falconry Experience Wales, at Forge near Machynlleth. "We were delighted to have 3 pairs of Yellowhammers
nesting this summer. We were lucky enough to be able to take lots of
photos and the males all had different markings and all 3 were seen
feeding young only a few feet away from the kitchen window. What seemed
unusual was that they all seemed to carry food to the same area. while
the hens were brooding, with no territorial disputes that we viewed.
They were a common bird in the Machynlleth area when I was growing up,
but sightings locally are very hit and miss. We find that all the garden birds feel safe when our
raptors are out on the perches as the Goshawk and Sparrowhawk tend to
not fly through when our raptors are out." Thanks Barry and to Luce for the photo.
