Twelve Months On

 Tony Coatsworth writes:

"It's now been 12 months since we moved from Manchester to Berriew. In that time I've managed to see 114 bird species in Montgomeryshire which isn't a bad start.
Highlights were Brent Goose, Whooper Swan, Goshawk and chick, and the Wales woodland specialities - Wood Warbler, Pied Flycatcher, Tree Pipit and Crossbill.
I need to spend more time up in the moors as I missed Hen Harrier and Short-eared Owl, and maybe on the 'coast' to get Barnacle Goose, Red-breasted Merganser and waders on a high tide coming up the River Dyfi. Then there are the scarce breeders like Little Owl, Lesser Whitethroat, Yellow Wagtail and Tree Sparrow, so plenty more to aim for.
Birds I'd expect to see in Manchester but seem non-existent here include a lot of wildfowl, more variety of Gulls, Willow Tit and Ring-necked Parakeet (maybe we don't need those though!).

Many thanks to Paul Roughley and Simon Boyes for showing me round some sites, and I think the WhatsApp group is a welcome addition if people keep posting their sightings.

Hopefully get to meet more birders in the near future."
