I guess its a female's prerogative to be late on certain occasions! But my male Pied Flycatcher seems somewhat impatient at the seemingly late arrival of his female counterpart. He has been singing his heart out in my garden today hoping to attract the attention of the local 'talent'. Mind you he is not exactly the 'Frank Sinatra' of the bird World his song is fairly short and sweet but he does look mighty fine in his black and white regalia. He has been flitting back and fore between one of 4 nest-boxes in my garden trying to hold territory on them and chasing away any other prospective occupier who comes near and that today included a poor goldfinch which I'm assuming doesn't pose a threat to him as they are not hole nesters but this fellow is a bit of a bully. Mind you pied's are a bit of a cad when it comes to their love life he may hold 3 or more discrete territories and produce progeny from more than one female.
