Willow Warbler and other recent reports

Willow Warbler, 22 Mar: Welshpool, singing near Council Offices

Mandarin Duck, 21 Mar: 2 females flying upstream, Llandrinio Bridge

Sand Martin, 20 Mar: 4 early migrants at Dolydd Hafren, plus Green Sandpiper & 30 Fieldfare

Golden Plover, 17 Mar: 30 at Carno Windfarm, with Kestrel, Skylark, Meadow Pipit and Stonechat

Willow Tit, 15 Mar: 2 at Cwm Biga, Hafren Forest, plus a bin-raiding Pine Marten

Woodcock, 13 Mar: 1 near Llandyssil, and 2 on 3 Mar

There was also an intriguing report of a very early Ring Ouzel at Old Churchstoke on 28 Feb, just about the time they should be crossing from Africa to Spain. I wish there were a photo to confirm it though the description was good.

Thanks to Iolo Williams, John Morris, Paul Roughley, Barry Long, Eryl Selly, Jackie Matthews and John Davies for the reports.

  1. Thanks for the update, Simon. I heard a singing Willow Tit at Dyfnant Meadows last week (the record will come to you in our annual export) and also saw a Woodcock at Y Golfa (a first for that site).

Please could you encourage the Pine Marten reporter to send in a record (doesn't need to be direct to me, as long as it is recorded somewhere!).

    Thanks, Tammy
