Quite an exciting week of migration. A trio of adult Whooper Swans were on Llyn Hir (SJ 02 05) at sunrise on Wednesday (13th), and half an hour later departed low to the SSW.
Some Redwings on the same date
preceded a huge movement the following day (14th) when I counted a total of
circa 4100 during 6.5 hours; most were flying NW or WNW and many paused to rest
in plantations or feed on rowan berries.
This passage was seen elsewhere in Wales on the same date, and in eastern
and central England the previous day.
Also on the move in more modest
numbers have been Chaffinch, Brambling (several on 13th), Siskin, Lesser
Redpoll and Snipe.
Finally, my last dates (thus far)
for summer migrants: Swallow 4/10; Greenland Wheatear (the last of several)
also 4/10 near Llangurig; Chiffchaff 11/10.
Thanks Colin. I've noted your records for the next county report. I don't include Chiffchaff in my migrant dates though, as a few stay in the county all winter.
