Llyn Coed Y Dinas.

Now I'm back in Monty I've paid a couple of visits to Llyn Coed Y Dinas. Fantastic to see 5 Great White Egrets flying around the whole pool, together with 4 Little Egrets and up to 3 Grey Herons all living in apparent harmony with each other. Also a supporting cast of Kingfisher, Little Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Many Teal, a few Wigeon and a couple of Shoveller Duck. Also a Jay was making regular distant fly pasts.

  1. Good to see that you are back, Meurig. We seem to be attracting good numbers of Egrets, with 5 Great and 7 Little present together yesterday, and only 2 of our "native" Grey Herons. The little Egrets have realised that if they stay close to a feeding Cormorant in shallow water they, too, benefit from the panicking fish. Has anyone recorded any species other than Perch being caught? In the area to the left of the hide I have reinstated the Kingfisher posts, and one was in use within 20 minutes.

  2. I've only seen the occasional Perch being caught.
