  1. Hi Brian. I live in down the road. I'd love to see them if they are still around and you don't mind me popping by? I've never seen one before! Thanks! Lottie

    1. Hi Brian. Managed to spot them! Stunning birds! I've noticed one has a red ring on I think! Not sure if a camera might be able to get the details on it or the metal ring but might be worth a try if they come back into your garden! You're very lucky to have them in your garden!

  2. Pleased you’ve seen them, three usually on the tree by the gate. One has a blue ring but I.cant get the details.

    1. Ooo that is interesting. So one blue and one with red! Yes that's where I saw them on the trees by the field gate!

  5. The ringed colour Waxwings will most likely have rings on both legs. If it's the same combinations as previous winters, it will be a metal ring and a blue ring on one of the legs and two colour rings on the other leg. My guess is that you saw the same bird, but different legs. If you can see both legs clearly and make a note of the order of the rings, we can tell you the history of that individual. My guess is that this bird was originally trapped and ringed in Scotland a few weeks ago.
The mid Wales ringing group will also be colour ringing these fantastic birds to help gather information of where they go after they leave mid wales, so please keep an eye out for any with rings.

    1. Hi Paul. I had a look at a website last night which showed some pictures of 3 colour rings on one leg (e.g. Green/Red/Green). James and I only saw a red and what we thought was a metal ring (could have been grey maybe though!) on the left leg of one. Was quite tricky to see! Might head there today to see if they are still around and if I can get any better views of their legs!

    2. There was definitely a silver ring above the red ring on the left leg. Didn't get good views of right leg unfortunately but Brian's pictures show right leg nicely

  6. Ok, thanks for the info. It's very possible that all the previous combinations have been used up, so maybe 3 on one leg is the new combination. Both legs will still need checking though :)

  7. You’re right Paul, the blue and red rings are on the same bird. The other two are not ringed.
