A cold sunny morning, just the job for spending some time watching the feeders. But alas not to be,the only birds i saw were 3 Chaffinchs, 1 Robin, 1 Brambling, 2 Reed Bunting, 2 House Sparrows and a couple of Blue Tits, Why ?. Starlings, A flock of over a hundred ( I lost count then) descended into the garden for almost two hours, And in that time managed to eat virtualy everything in the feeders and on the seed table .
I'd filled the feeders last evening, and that would normaly last for two days before needing to be refilled. So a lot of the smaller visitors went hungry today, But Hey Ho, thats just one of those things. Have refilled the feeders and hope the Starlings don't appear in such numbers over the next few days especially this sunday when i'll and i hope everyone will be taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Survey.
Took a ride around the Llandrinio area yesterday, and just as mark said, within a short time saw a small flock of Fieldfares with a few redwing mixed in. More small flocks were seen as i travelled from Crew Green across to the Pentre. Thanks Mark.

Yeah but the starlings are largely going to be migrants aren't they so it's not that bad a thing is it?? Did you manage to catch up with the fieldfare?

ReplyDeleteNo problem Kevin - pleased you saw them. In the snow in the week before Christmas there were at a guess 100 fieldfare and redwing feeding on the berries at the roadside as you drive through Llandrinio opposite the Punch Bowl pub - was a hell of a sight and have a pic somewhere (as Happy Snappers do!!)
