Plants for birds
After another harsh winter most of the plants in my garden have died so as i need to buy new plants thought i could plant things that would attract birds, problem is I'm not a keen gardener and don't know what plants to put in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Phil, there's two ways of approaching this, one is looking at plants that birds feed off ie. berries or fruit, the other, plants that provide habitat for insect life. so the list of plants- trees, shrubs prennial's and bedding is quite long, one way to gain ideas is next time you are near a bookshop call in and have a look at the bird books,It costs nothing to look does it???
ReplyDeleteDepends how big your garden is Phil, I've just planted 3 Rowan hoping to pinch a few Waxwing next year ,or later ,from Burgess Croft.Sorry Kev
ReplyDeleteBottom line Phil is that birds are interested in an available and safe source of food, be it the berries or insects that Kev mentions and of course if you can do both you should get both summer and winter feeders - coercing them in with a couple of feeders or a bird table is always good! Just try not to provide too much cover for the good old domestic cat!
ReplyDeleteAnd like Brian I've invested in some Rowan for the winter berries - maybe I can pinch all the birds from Welshpool? Hmm......
