The Pied Piper returns!

Iv'e had my 1st male Pied Flycatcher of the year at my home near Aberhosan this morning I usually clock them around the tenth of the month then maybe I just haven't noticed them. As is the usual pattern he was popping in and out of the nestbox by my house. These guys don't waste any time! From my experience the males always precede the females on their return to my home patch. I bet those southerly 'tail' winds have brought some good migrants into Britain during the past few days (please bring me a hoopoe to remind me of sunnier climes! We had one in our valley in April a few years ago. It's scientific name 'Upupa epops' sounds just as funny as its common English name! Its name of course is suggestive of its unmistakable call. Update - there were a few swallows in my valley this afternoon.
