Nature red in tooth and claw at L. Cyd last evening as the 3 Oystercatcher chicks, despite being well-grown had their number reduced by one. The adults were off seeking food, and the only real resistance was put up by a few Black-headed Gulls. Rather surprisingly, after killing the chick, the LBB left the body uneaten.
Nice set of images Chris, the remaining two chicks were seen late afternoon. There was always one to be seen wandering off away from the adults, I assume he/she was the victim.
ReplyDeleteThought our luck was in when a youngster called out that the black and white bird was a 'penguin'.
