At 16.35 this afternoon the youngest and only female in the Dyfi osprey nest fledged, she was 57 days and 6 hours old - quite long for a first flight, even for a female. Two first time breeding ospreys have fledged three young on the Dyfi this year - if you would have told me that four months ago I wouldn't have believed you! Very rare for first time breeders to get three out.
Here's a short video of today's historic maiden flight

I think the boys will now commence a lengthy series of “Circuits and Bumps” – just to calibrate, cross-check, and test their GPS accuracy, compare Magnetic and True North, and then assess the charging cycles of the solar-powered batteries.
ReplyDeletePresumably, Leri will just be happy if it works...(and delighted that she doesn’t even have to know how to check the oil....)
(If we have any female Bloggers, I love you all....)
