In praise of the Michaelmas Daisy

'Michaelmas Daisy' that's the purple flower the butterfly is feeding on Mark! One of nature's finest plants for butterflies (and bees!) and have I got any in my own garden? -well no but in my youth I grew up with masses of them in our large garden in Newtown. The butterflies which fed on the flowers at this time of year used to enthral me and I tended to those Michaelmas daisy clumps with a passion. I was a young birdwatcher then and not really into butterflies but seeing them prompted me to buy the book 'South's British Butterflies' which Iv'e still got and treasure. So if you want to attract hordes of 'flutterbies' into your little corner of Wales then please plant a little clump of these lovely flowers and reap the rewards of your efforts in the autumn!
