Had to stay local today to take my good lady to Morrisons in Newtown - mmmmm!!!! guess who had other ideas?. We set of from Manafon and drove past the pub at Cefn Coch, only one bird was on my mind at this moment. Oh joy, just past the access road to Foel Quarry was a small coppice of fir trees on my offside, and there on the roadside boundry wall was a pair of stonechat and a few feet away a superb pair of `Wheatear`. I continued via Carno and towards Newtown. A mile prior to reaching Theatre Haffren a Red Kite displayed low over a small plantation on my offside. Upon reaching my destination a pair of `lesser black backed gull sat proudly on the supermarket sign at roof height. Thinking the day was over we continued our journey via the Severn bridge at Aberbechan where I glimpsed a male Goosander on the riverbank, I pulled into the field by the `fishermans car park` and counted six goosander all relaxing on the bank - 3 male and 3 female.
Finaly upon reaching the village of Manafon a pair of `Pied Flycatcher` flew in a typical bounding motion past my line of site. Yes `shopping trips can be productive` - lol. Oh nearly forgot - saw 6 more House Martin near Highgate on the road to Battws Cedewain, where we called in at The `Bull and Hieffer` just in case there was a dipper on the small river.
