Pwll Penarth

On approaching the reserve entrance a pair of Green Woodpecker were feeding only managed this grab shot as they flew off.

From the first hide a Heron was fishing, have never seen them this close to the hide before on this reserve.

Swans have 7 Signets

Lots of Mallard about and counted 23 ducklings at one point. No wonder the Mink is hunting here, 3 male and 2 female Tufted duck, usual Coots and  Moorhens no LRP and only 1 common Sandpiper

  1. John E has caught the green wood there - tho I've never seen them there! Given that there are few if any fish in Pwll Penarth (hence no grebes/goosander etc) and the heron was under the sand martin cliff could that be significant?? Didn't see it stick its head in any of the nest holes did you
