Swifts

After what seems to have been a surprisingly good (given the weather) breeding season in Welshpool, the Swifts have slipped away in the last few days. Two over Red Bank on the 3rd, and one moving south over L. Cyd. this afternoon, where 2 Reed Warblers were still in front of the hide.
Interesting to note the annual build up of eclipse Mallard, and also adult Coot numbers up to about 40 at L. Cyd. at this time of year, as only 2-3 pairs attempt to breed. Where have these Coot spent the summer?

  1. Hi Chris - was watching half a dozen or so yesterday evening flying around Sarn but none in sight now - love to know what it is that triggers them to move en masse!
