Cerniog Valley
From Carno village, up the steep and winding narrow lanes to the top of Cerniog Valley, on a beautiful sunny day (thurs 27th), birds of note included (flyovers) Hse Martin (75+) Swallow (50+) Linnet (20+) and Mistle Thrush (12). In the trees of note were Willow Warbler (5) Redpoll (4) Siskin (4) and single Great spotted and Green Woodpecker. On the fields many Mipits and a small flock of Goldfinch (10). The view from the top of Cerniog Valley is stunning and our star bird of the day, a male Hen Harrier quartering the fields fitted the scenery with perfection.

Excellent Tony, that's what is known as a great days birding.
ReplyDeleteIsnt it getting a bit late for 5 Willow Warblers, sure they arent Chiffchaffs?
ReplyDeleteHarrier probably on migration but the breeding territories are increasing in our county, so who knows?
ReplyDeleteThat's not a bad day!
