Penarth AM

Believe it or not, the weather turned out very pleasant for 3 hours or so this morning.  The pool was fairly quiet; a lone Little Grebe and the usual Mallards.  A few Redwing flying around, and a Song Thrush landing close enough for a picture.

Gazing across along the sandbanks, something didn't quite belong...

Upon further inspection, a Terrapin perhaps? (I've informed the MWT of its presence).
Edit: Yellow Bellied Slider Turtle.

Leaving Penarth via the canal path, the Kingfisher made a welcome flypast along the water (still kicking myself for taking out of focus pictures of it!).  A Red Kite was spotted hunting over the woodland by the canal, heading toward Aberbechan.  And finally, a Jay.

    1. Edit: Just studying your pictures of the Redwing, Mark, the difference is quite noticable.

  4. Glad you have one too-there's been one at L'dod for several years:we guess released after the Ninja craze when they got too big. If I remember correctly , it's called a Red eared Terrapin or similar.

  6. Our Terrapin is actually a Yellow Bellied Slider part of the turtle family, just had a phone call off a friend who has 3 of these that have all been found in ponds in his local area
