Good reason not to be too tidy

Had good views of a female siskin feeding on the seed of last year's Evening Primrose this morning. Photo only a record shot and taken through the window. Other hungry visitors to the garden are fieldfares, song and mistle thrush, a pair of jays, long-tailed tits, coal tit, nuthatch, treecreeper, goldcrest  and 2 lesser redpoll - very few redwings this year, but more starlings than we've seen for a long time. Haven't seen the bramblings for a few days either, but several on the Wern.

    Your doing very well Sue, well done. The photo of the Siskin is interesting, showing the bird eating garden seeds, its so easy to tidy up the garden in autumn loosing all the seed heads.

    In my experience birds don't like tidy (well that's my excuse anyway!!) - nice one

    "too tidy" is a major factor in the loss of birds' feeding and nesting sites. Really drives me mad to see folk clearing areas for no other reason than to have it looking "tidy".
    Also,to the folk who insist on planting horrid daffs in grass verges, chuck some wild flower seed down instead.
    I could go on but I wont.
