Great Grey Shrike
Good but distant view of Great Grey Shrike at Hafren Forest, flying between high tree tops at around 3pm..... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Directions: From Rhyd Y Benwch car park follow source of the Severn path for about 10 minutes until reaching a wooden shelter just beyond the concrete flume where the river runs through a long cleared stretch. Shrike was seen on left in trees beyond clearing across the river.
Also, continue along path to a bridge, after crossing turn right and walk for a few minutes until reaching a clearing with a young-ish plantation on left and a bench by river, this is where GGS have been seen in the past (I am told).

ReplyDeleteBlimey, we were up there as well looking and looking (been four times in the last three weeks). Great news! we first saw one four years ago just above Rhyd y Benwch on the cutover bank on the right walking upstream just before a bridge crosses the Severn. Great news, we'll go back soon. Did you see any crossbills or know where they've all gone? Have a good Christmas. Eryl
