Wern Water Rail

Good views of a water rail feeding in wet area below the canal on the Wern yesterday morning. This is the first time we've seen one here for many years - and a great treat. The heavy overnight rain had led to the water extending further than usual, which may have made it easier to see, but will be keeping an eye on things in the coming weeks. A single male goosander on the canal too.

  1. A water rail and almost in your back garden too. Very quiet here except for a couple of visits to 'our' valley by a noisy yaffle. No sign of crossbills or naything else unusual up in the forest and I fear the Great Grey may well be 'no more'
