Inspired by Simon's post about Moel-y-Golfa earlier in the week I decided it was time to get myself up to the one Breidden Hill which I had never been up. Arriving at around 10:30 (parking at around SJ 285 125) a male Pied Flycatcher was singing in a nearby tree.
On the climb up a couple of Common Whitethroat called around us before getting into the woods. Many Pied Flycatcher (around a dozen heard and seen in total) and Redstart were seen on the walk. A few Blackbirds moved on a Tawny Owl in a nearby tree which flew close by before arriving at it's new perch. And a couple of Green Woodpecker were very vocal near the summit before one of the individuals revealed itself.
One of the highlights of the walk though was a singing and calling Wood Warbler on the way down! This was heard and eventually seen from near where the footpath goes back on itself at SJ 292 125. (Going on from Simon's comment I had a Wood Warbler in spring 2/3 years ago not far from the car park at the base of Rodeny's Pillar, however this only seemed to pass through.) A few dear were seen from this area also.
We arrived back at the car park at around 2pm. Not an easy walk by far, with many footpaths blocked by fallen trees with some de-tours needed, and steep in places! But a very rewarding walk all in all and will definitely by visiting again (maybe to do a Breidden 3 peaks walk!).
