Water Rail on Wern
Good views of a water rail this morning, in mini-wetland area alongside the canal. It seems to favour the Wern over the winter months, although it may be that summer foliage etc hides it from view. Also two grey wagtails and several bullfinches today, plus good numbers of redwing and a few fieldfares.

Great sighting Sue
ReplyDeleteThanks Brian. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and noticed disturbance in the water below me. Now I need to buy a camera which will get good shots - I know you would have had some good ones, as the reflections were good too.
ReplyDeleteIs the reserve still closed at the Wern Sue? I haven't been down there for some years so perhaps a visit may be in order!
ReplyDeleteNice to have Grey Wagtail and Bullfinch as well
The reserve is usually open Brian, but it's only possible to walk half way round in either direction at the moment, as they're doing some repair work on a small bridge. The path is rather wet and muddy, so wear good footwear! Most of my sightings tend to be from the canal towpath though (also quite wet and muddy!)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...a lot more happening over there than over here!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue, and I must make a visit to the reserve. The canal is really nice around that area.
ReplyDeleteStill a little quiet round here Eryl, just had an email from a friend visiting Norfolk and they had 3 Waxwing and dozens of Snow Bunting amongst other goodies.
