Dipper courtship?

For the last couple of days, I have noticed 2 Dippers on the Afon Vyrnwy in Pontrobert undertaking what appears to be courtship behaviour, with loud singing and displaying witnessed. Is this a normal thing for this time or year, laying down territories for the winter or are they confused?! Although I regularly see Dippers on the river, I've never seen this behaviour before at any time of year, in the 9 years we've lived there.

    Tammy - I think it most likely to be territorial behaviour. They do have winter territories (which may or may not be the same as their breeding territory). Dipper are early breeders, but courtship would not normally start until January.
