Corndon Hill and Dolydd Hafren

An early morning walk up Corndon in freezing conditions on the 29th, apart from producing amazing views had a few good birds on show. 2 Woodcock were flushed from the hill side and Ravens were all around. 5 Meadow Pipit and some thrushes flew overhead. The main thrush presence however was at the base of the hill with at least 10 Fieldfare amongst 8+ Redwing and one or two Song Thrushes, plus the usual Blackbirds. There are a considerable amount of berries still on the hawthorns so I expect this flock to hang around. Another 7 Meadow Pipits flew over with more thrushes in the fields adjacent to the lane.

Went to Dolydd Hafren in the evening to catch the starling roost. Whilst this was unsuccessful, there were lots of other birds coming into roost. 15 Goosander (12 males 3 females), 33 Curlew, 11 Reed Buntings, 100 Wigeon, 50 Greylag Geese and 30 Teal. 2 Goldcrest, 1 Buzzard, 1 Little Egret and a possible Whooper Swan were other birds of note. The usual thrush roost was present in good numbers of all species.
