A welcome whitethroat

Exploring the local lanes recently has been a treat in the spring sunshine, accompanied by constant birdsong. We don't remember hearing as many blackcaps and whitethroats before, but maybe we just have more time to look and listen! We have also been in the company of clouds of St Mark's flies for the last couple of weeks, but I hadn't realised I'd captured them on camera when taking a distant and not very clear photo of a whitethroat. Not sure whether the bird would make the most of this ready meal - it was more intent on singing - or whether it tends to prefer to pick off insects from foliage.
