Swallow in December and Cuckoo news

A Swallow was still active at Lake Vyrnwy until 6th Dec. Each night it returned to roost on its nest by the RSPB office. On the morning of 7th Dec, it was found dead under the nest. Perhaps it was too weak to migrate throughout Oct and Nov?

A male Cuckoo was ringed and satellite-tagged at Lake Vyrnwy early on 5 June this year. He was named Daniel. On 6 Dec, he was in the Central African Republic. Read his whole story here:

Thanks to Mike Haigh for the Swallow news and for tagging the Cuckoo.
