Ever-increasing migrant activity
Visited four commons near Welshpool today, monitoring the habitat suitability for the rare Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterfly, which will be on the wing any day now. All sites were alive with bird song, with Redstart, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff an almost constant accompaniment. Also heard the first Garden Warbler of the year on one site. Other 'nice' species included Bullfinch, Linnet, Yellowhammer and Tree Pipit.
