Dog hair & Pied Fly's

You may be wondering why I have posted a picture of two dogs on a bird blog?! Well, Merlin & Cerrig are my two Papillons and they have wonderfully silky fur which moults continuously. At this time of the year I put everything I groom into the 'fat ball feeder' for the birds. This morning I put a large handful out (from a few days grooming) and in less than a minute a Great Tit took a beakful off to its nest! The whole lot disappeared in less than two hours!! That brood is going to have five-star accomodation!

Late morning, I took a walk up to Coed Pendguwm Nature Reserve to see if the Pied Flycatchers were back. I'd only been in the wood 10 minutes when I saw a female and I went on to hear (and often see too) six singing males - wonderful! I'd left the camera at home, expecting it to rain, but really wish I hadn't as the weather was glorious and the Pied Fly's very confiding.

  1. What a lovely picture of two lovely dogs, who needs to photograph birds when you have these.

Birds are snobs, I put out my dogs hair last year, a Border Collie, and the birds didn't want to know!
